OCR: ADAPT Core Objects Hyperarbes: The basic units of data storage for an OLAP database; defined by dimensions. Dimensions. Define the structure of data in an OLAP database, A dimension can be thought of as the index for accessing values in a hypercube. The list of values that make up a dimension is called the list of members. Calculations: The heart of an OLAP application, calculations control the computation of derived data. Business intelligence is embodied in cakulations. Models: Collections of algebraic equations used to calculate derived data. Hierarchies: A special case of models in which each detived dimension member is a collection of other dimension members. Data Sources: Exogenous data. Can be online or input. ADAPT Dimension Types Aggregation dimension: The most common type of dimension. Summing data up a hierarchy is the primary operation performed along aggregation dimensions. Sequential dimension: A special case of aggregation dimensions that requires a logical. order of dimension members. Property dimension: A characteristic associated with input members of an aggregation; dimension. Version dimension: Used to associate different variants of the same data: Measure dimension: Used to associate different elements of data. Tuple dimension: A combination of other dimensions, usually aggregation, property. s and/or meastire dimensions. The members of a tuple dimension are ordered pairs of members of other dimensions. ADAPT Associated Objects (3) Dimension member: An individual member of a dimension. Dimension attribute: Provides descriptive Information associated with members of a dimension. Dimension membership: Defines the relationships between two or more dimensions. {} Dimension scope: Used to create domain subsets of dimensions (the set of valid dimension members). Context: A portion of a hypercube. Contexts are created by applying dimension scopes to a hypercube to define a region of the hypercube that is of Interest. Hierarchy level: Used to denominate an implied precedence of aggregation. Associated with a hierarchy, although not all hierarchles have levels.
